- 2011- anti- government demonstrations began leading to the formation of the Free Syrian Army later in the year
- 2012- 100,000 Syrian refugees
- 2013- 800,000 Syrian refugees
- 2014
- 3 million Syrian refugees
- civil war has now killed over 190,000 people
- >6.5 million people are internally displaced
- 1/2 of refugees are children (many of whom have lost all family)
- majority of refugees are fleeing to Jordan, Lebanon & Turkey
- Syrian refugees make up 1/10 of Jordan's population
